Initially the instrument is used to confirm the accuracy of the centric relation mounting. In addition, it measures the difference between centric relation and the position of maximum occlusal contact in three dimensions. It is used to record changes in condylar positions mandated by pathogenic occlusions before, during, and after treatment. A modified upper member of the SAM® Articulator, it has sliding cubes that contact the medial poles of the condylar elements.
