The Grummons 3-way appliance can also be prescribed with the expansion screw oriented in an anterior-posterior direction. This design allows for:
- Anterior-posterior space creation and development
- Molar de-rotation with distal translation
- Occlusal plane improvement by unilateral molar extrusion or intrusion
- Asymmetric movements possible with differential activations of molar loops/springs
